THE POWER OF COLLABORATION

A Conversation with Nancy Tillinghast
00:00 / 08:34

The local library was searching for a platform to launch the very first One Book Project in Thomasville, GA. Thomasville Center for the Arts’ public art team was looking for a cause to support. Public Art Director, Darlene Crosby Taylor, and former Thomas County Public Library Director, Nancy Tillinghast, discuss how collaboration in a small community enables big things to happen.

FLAUNT2013 | It's About Time!

For FLAUNT2013 | It's About Time the word was literacy, and all of Thomasville got on board. Life-sized paper mâché figures were installed downtown, live-action paper mâché models came to life in stores and on the sidewalks, and artists created book-inspired window installations. The event kicked off on Friday, September 6th when the clock struck 6:00 PM, and artists, Center members, and sponsors met at 118 Broad Street for a kickoff celebration, art auction, and juried art exhibition, where the library unveiled the title of the secret book (The Time Keeper by Mitch Albom) and a month-long celebration of art and literacy began.

This project was made possible through the passion and work of:

2 partners

30 sponsors

42 volunteers

18 partnering businesses

12 paper mâché artists

17 window installation artists

16 Plein air painters

12 live performance artists

3 paper installation artists

Mitch Albom, Author - One Book Project

and the community who supported FLAUNT2013:  It's About Time!

From our author, Mitch Albom

"What I've learned on my journey is that time is precious. This is why we don't have unlimited time . . . It's not the amount of time you have in life, it's what you do with it. What Thomasville, GA did with my book was amazing. I never expected it"
